Deputy Prime Minister Şimşek visits Merinos Halı 13-Aug-2017

GAZİANTEP (İHA) - Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek and the accompanying delegation visited the Merinos facilities in the Gaziantep Organized Industrial Zone.
Merinos Halı Chairman of the Board of Directors and Sasa Polyester Board Member Ali Erdemoğlu and Sasa Board Member Mehmet Şeker were informed about new investments and social responsibility projects undertaken by the Erdemoğlu family. In the presentation made to Deputy Prime Minister Şimşek, the details of the investments of approximately 3.5 billion dollars to be made by SASA Polyester in the coming period were explained. Sasa Board Member and General Manager Mehmet Şeker says, "Within the scope of this project, Terephthalic Acid (PTA), Mono Ethylene Glycol (MEG) and Polymer / Chips will be produced in a short term (4 years). In the medium and long term (4-7 years), it will turn into a Petrochemical Complex that will enable the production of chemicals such as paraxylene and ethylene, which are the main raw materials of PTA, MEG, Polypropylene, PVC production. With this investment, Turkey will become the main production base of chemical substances, and PTA, MEG, polymer / chips that will cause closure of Turkey's current account deficit. First phase investments include PTA, MEG and Polymer / Chips production. The second phase investments will include the production of Paraxylene, Ethylene and other plastics attached to them (Polyethylene, Polypropylene and Poly Vinyl Chloride), which are the main raw materials of the products produced in the 1st phase. In the first phase investment, there will be PTA (2 million 400 thousand tons / year), MEG (1 million 200 thousand tons / year) and Polymer / Chips (2 million 205 thousand tons / year). In the MEG investment, production alternatives from coal, oil derivatives or natural gas are studied. The second phase investments will be Naphtha refinery investment to produce paraxylene and ethylene, which are the raw materials of the first phase investments, and the production facilities of other plastic raw materials (Polyethylene and Poly Vinyl Chloride). With SASA's PTA, MEG and Polymer / Chips investments, the number of employees, which is 266 today, will increase to 4 thousand 496. 50 of this number are highly qualified employees. The number of employees in the project will increase from 2017, which is the starting year of the project, and employees of the relevant enterprise will start their training at least 1 year before the start-up of the enterprises. Most of the employees in the enterprise will also accompany the assembly works. By 2023, the number of employees at SASA will increase from one thousand 266 to the level of 4 thousand 496. With the PTA (2 million 400 thousand tons) investment, the effect of reducing the current account deficit with today's prices will be approximately 487 million 800 thousand $ (1 million 707 thousand 300 TL) annually. The net sales amount of this investment will be around 6 billion TL / year. With the MEG (1 million 200 thousand tons) investment, the effect of reducing the current account deficit with today's prices will be approximately 362 million 800 thousand $ (1 million 268 thousand 300 TL) annually. The net sales amount of this investment will be around 240 billion TL / year. With the Polymer / Chips investment planned by SASA, the current polymer annual production will increase from 322 thousand tons / year to 2 million 527 million tons / year in 2022. After completion of this investment project, dependence to foreign sources of Turkey in respect of polymer / Chips will be eliminated, and Turkey will be an exporter. "The current account deficit reducing effect of this investment will be approximately $ 855 million (2 billion 990 million TL)."
In addition to Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Şimşek, Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin, Gaziantep Governor Ali Yerlikaya, MPs and officials were present during the Merinos Halı visit.
